1908/1909 - A couple months after the state alchemists had been brought in, the Ishvalans attacked the military encampment with a two prong attack, drawing away the fighting troops to the front/sides of the camp, causing the rear of it to be weakened and allowing a small group of Ishvalans to sneak through the camp and blow up the building that served as a command post for the Führer and the brass which served beneath him. The explosion and the stone which fell on the men within the building killed them since the majority of people were occupied with dealing with the frontal attack and by the time they were capable of giving their attention elsewhere within the camp, it was revealed what the real aim of the sudden and unexpected attack had been.
The death of the Führer was a blow to the camp's morale as Amestris had been robbed of its Führer as well as a few of its higher ranking brass that had had the misfortune to be in the same area as King Bradley. The remaining officers took the reigns until a new Führer could be appointed, or that was how it appeared in the public eye. In secret they discussed this unfortunate hitch in their plans and debated among themselves about how to fill the void which was now needing filled. A couple thought a message should be sent to Central for another candidate to be prepared, but others argued against it. Considering they had previously gone through twelve such candidates before a suitable one had been found, it would take far too long to gain a new leader via such a method, even if it was the most suitable one for gaining one that would put the plan first and everything else second.
Most agreed that a soldier whom showed good leadership on the field and whom was well respected should be chosen and hopefully he would survive the ordeal and grant them their new leader. Another suggested they might have better luck succeeding if they found one with stubborn tenacity and strong willpower. Thus various records and reports of the officers on the field were looked at and listened to and after several hours debate, one man was settled on by the greater majority of the group. Now that the candidate had been selected, it was time to prepare the needed stone and thus the matter was turned over to the doctors whom arrived not too long after the crisis began. It was going on a week after the Führer's death when the matter of recreating a second one was put underway, an officer calling their chosen candidate into the field hospital and sounding him out to see how willing he was to accept the position. Once willingness was expressed, they began to put things in order, bringing their stone and the candidate into a room deep and hidden within the building.
The aforementioned candidate was Roy Mustang, who was rather confused about the actions of the doctors and was given little in the way of answers when he asked about the 'test' they claimed he'd have to pass in order to ascend to the position they were offering. With no warning, they injected their Stone into the man and for a good half minute sent the man to hell as he dealt with the pain of the reaction and fighting off the souls within that sought to claim him, he succeeded in keeping his soul, but there remained one last soul within the stone he ended up in stalemate with, having expended all of his energy on the rest before it. He kept it from taking him over, but could not crush and remove it. Thus was the new Wrath born to reclaim the position of the Führer. His first act was to kill the doctors who had made him what he was now, partly out of anger over the pain they had put him through and partly so they could not do it to anyone else in the future. Having lost one eye in the process, he let the brass keep him penned up the first week as he adjusted to the loss of depth perception and the new position.
Shortly after the week had passed he quit allowing them to dictate his actions and met with the spiritual leader of the Ishvalans. The cease-fire of the war came about due to the meeting and shortly after it, the war ended and the soldiers and alchemists were sent back to their homes. Unfortunately, due to misunderstandings in their last meeting, possibly due to the change in Mustang's position, and secrets he couldn't really share, his friendship with Maes Hughes was strained and they went their separate ways not speaking for little over a year until Roy finally went and sought to mend it. He also approached Riza Hawkeye to work under him as his secretary.
Kimblee also held a place in his employ, keeping him informed on the state of certain places and groups, and also helping to keep him and Envy from going for each other throats. Envy held a grudge against him for not only ending the Ishval war early, but also killing him during the end of it when Envy in the guise of a soldier for Amestris sought to kill the Ishvalan leader and thus revive the ending war. Roy had not known that Envy had been that soldier, but had expressed he'd wouldn't have changed his action, even if he had known it. Due Roy's putting the people of Amestris first in his actions and seeking to protect their country, Father and those involved in the plans for the Nationwide Transmutation Circle kept the details of it from him.
Also in what little spare time he has, he begins to learn how to use a sword.
1910/1911 - When he heard of the Elric brothers, he sent Kimblee to check on them and after hearing about their situation, invited Edward Elric into the State Alchemist program. Despite being threatened by Edward during his examination, he was impressed by the young man and admitted him into the program with the title of Fullmetal Alchemist.
1911/1913 - Roy is kept busy dealing with the skirmish and border wars, working against the Homunculi when possible to stave off what he sees as useless bloodshed. The Homunculi also tend to make this harder when Envy pretends to be him and issues orders in his name to further Father's goal and the making of the Circle.
1914 - The issue of Scar arises as does the fighting within Reole due to conflicting orders given about the situation. Looking into certain things, he learns the truth about the Philosopher Stone and the events which occur within the 5th Laboratory. Visiting Edward in the hospital afterward, he gives the boy a warning that not all of the military is to be trusted and thus to be wary about who he confides in.
He also ends up interfering with the Homunculi's attempt to kill Hughes, chasing Envy off before he has the chance to kill the man. Taking Hughes to Knox in order for the doctor to tend to his friend's injuries, he learns what his friend has found out and what Lust and Envy attempted to silence in their attempt to assassinate Hughes.
